The massacre pit with a memorial stone was erected in 1985 with the inscription ‘The corpses dug up from the massacre sites were burnt here’ (in Lithuanian and Russian). The inscription is not accurate because from the end
of 1943 onwards, bodies were burnt in areas near the pits. The structure of the embankments is well preserved. Their western part was damaged in the 1960s during the construction of the railway. On the right side of
the pit, you can see part of the surviving stone wall that was installed during the construction of the Paneriai fuel base.
