In 1996, on the initiative of Algis Karosas, the then head of the Paneriai Memorial Museum, the memory of Enzis Jagomastas (1870-1941), a public figure of Lithuania Minor, a bibliophile, a book carrier, a printer, and a publisher, who was murdered by the Nazi security police together with his family between 21 and 23 August 1941, was immortalised (by the architect Julius Masalskas, the sculptor Gintas Šuminas). Persecuted by the German authorities for many years for defending Lithuanian rights, he was exiled with his family and since March 1941 lived in Vilnius, where he was found by the Gestapo and killed in Paneriai. E. Jagomastas’ wife Anna Marta, sons Dovas (1904-1941) and Jurgis (1917-1941), daughter Ona Jagomastaitė-Vilmantienė (1900-1941) and her husband Emilis Vilmantas-Mecklenburg were also murdered in Paneriai.
