In 2004, a monument was erected to commemorate the 86 soldiers of the local Lithuanian national troops who were killed. In February 1944, with the permission of the Chief of Staff of the SS and Police of Nazi Germany, Gen. Povilas Plechavičius started to form a military unit to fight against Soviet and Polish partisans. On 17, 18 and 21 May 1944, the Nazis arrested and shot 86 members of the Lithuanian and German troops in Paneriai.
