On the initiative of Shaya Epstein, chairman of the Vilnius Committee in Israel, together with the Lithuanian Jewish community and the Republic of Lithuania, a plaza was built in June 1991 and a monument with inscriptions in Yiddish, Hebrew, Lithuanian, English and Russian was unveiled in remembrance of the Jewish who were killed in Paneriai. The monument created by the architect Jaunutis Makariūnas was based on the example of the first monument that stood at the memorial between 1948 and 1952.
