In 1996, a monument was erected to the Soviet prisoners of war killed in 1941. The inscription on the monument ‘7,514 Red Army prisoners of war of various nationalities died of disease and starvation in these trenches in 1941’ is not accurate, as the number of victims is still unknown. It is assumed that around 5,000 people may have been killed.
